This years Charity Concert in memory of Rachel

04th April 2025

We are thrilled to announce that at our recent concert in Emmanuel Church, West Wickham, we raised over £1900 for BYMT (Bromley Youth Music Trust) in memory of our friend Rachel. The concert was held on Saturday 29th March and provided an opportunity for us to remember a talented and much-loved member of our group who we lost suddenly two years ago. Rachel was a brilliant saxophonist who brought passion, enthusiasm and humour to all the activities she was involved with, but for her, XBY was extra special. She developed a love of concert band music from an early age, she took real pride in the craft and process of honing a performance and, as many of us do, she lived for the feeling of being carried away in the ensemble.

Rachel is dearly missed by all of the band and it was lovely to welcome back some past members and in particular former XBY saxophonists who wished to play in the concert to celebrate her memory and the joy that XBY has brought to so many people for such a long time.

On the programme were some of the band’s and Rachel’s all-time favourites including Global Variations, East Coast Pictures, Overture to Candide and a medley from The Lion King.

BYMT (the charity chosen for the event), has supported all our members through their musical education and provides financial assistance where needed to allow all young people and the wider community to benefit from the enriching and transformative power of music. XBY simply wouldn’t exist without BYMT and so it was a privilege to be able to help this organisation in Rachel’s name.
